Individuals can develop an addiction to negative emotions in the same ways that they may become addicted to vices like gambling. States such as anger, shame, and resentment become so comfortable over time that they become preferable and limit the presence of positivity in life.

Now, they are guided to imagine themselves standing on a far-off beach, gazing at a picturesque scene of the sun over water. As they walk along the shoreline, a countdown leads them into a deeply relaxed state and prepares the unconscious mind for hypnotic suggestion.

During the trancework portion of the script, the client is guided through a variety of stories of people who experienced negative emotions. In one, a woman struggles with re-experiencing moments in her life that were unfair. In other, an ancient hero braces against a fatal siren's song.

Embedded commands instruct the client to "reconnect with what's most fulfilling" and "begin a new chapter."
