The fear of being punished, or mastigophobia, can cause unnecessary anxiety, guilt, and shame. Many sufferers believe themselves deserving of punishment, despite being afraid of it.

The Fear of Being Punished Hypnosis Script from The Script Collection was put together to help clients conquer their fear and change their thinking.

The script begins with an informative pre-talk that explains the origins and patterns of mastigophobia and how hypnosis will benefit the client.

By detailing the client's feelings and experiences, the script establishes trust in its process. The client is assured the therapist understands their issue and knows how to help them. They are further comforted by hearing how their feelings of guilt and shame around are both common and treatable.

The takeaways from the session are extolled. The client learns that their treatment will produce three outcomes: they will be helped along a path toward healing from past punishment or pressure; their unconscious mind's high standards will be reset to more achievable benchmarks; and they will develop the the skills to recognize when their issue is arising and be able to respond differently in the moment.

The induction opens with an embedded command that instructs the client to "relax very deeply." Flowing language is used to ease the client deeper toward a trance state and reassuringly asserts that they do not need to consciously try to relax.

The focus is turned to guiding the client's breath. They are encouraged to "naturally discover" their own personal way to relax. A long list of relaxing feelings and sensations are described. Embedded commands direct the client to "let go" and assure them it is "okay to just be."

As the trancework begins, the client is guided to imagine themselves in an "inner sanctuary of complete peace." An embedded command instructs them to become "open to the acceptance" of the chamber. In this space, the client hears kind and powerful words that "resonate through" the story of their life and instil a deep sense of ease and wellbeing within them.

Now, the client is urged to picture a younger version of themselves - a version who would benefit from hearing the radical acceptance and understanding words that echo in the sanctuary. Embedded commands anchor the notion of self-acceptance deep within the client's unconscious mind.

The client pictures themselves giving their younger self the sensations they feel. They are guided to imagine talking with and embracing their younger selves while transmitting a glowing light of energy that allows their younger self to accept themselves fully.

They are asked to imagine their younger self becoming free of the "excessive, harsh, and inhuman standards" they hold. The client is reminded that those standards never belonged to them, but sprang from someone else's mind. As the younger self jettison's those ideals, the client notices a "protective energy" enveloping them, allowing their younger self to "live their life true to themselves."
